Helping an independent healthcare practice build trust online

When people search for an acupuncturist, they are rarely looking for acupuncture.

They’re looking for someone who understands what they’re going through.

As Saskia Hawkins’ practice matured, her website no longer reflected the depth of her experience or the confidence with which she supported patients across fertility, women’s health, pregnancy, digestive health and chronic conditions.

Working closely with Saskia, I helped reshape her digital presence around the questions and concerns real patients arrive with, creating a website that builds trust, communicates expertise and provides a stronger foundation for long-term growth.

Platform

A complete redesign of an established acupuncture practice, supported by an ongoing programme of optimisation and content development.

Highlights

  • Repositioned the website around patient needs rather than treatment lists
  • Created a clearer structure for specialist areas of practice
  • Improved local search visibility through technical SEO and content strategy
  • Built a platform designed to evolve through continuous optimisation
  • Created a calmer, more confident digital experience that better reflects the practice

Overview

Over many years, Saskia had built an excellent reputation through the quality of her care and personal recommendations.

Her website had grown alongside the practice, but increasingly reflected where the business had been rather than where it was heading. Valuable information was spread across the site, specialist expertise wasn’t always easy to discover, and prospective patients often had to work hard to decide whether the practice was right for them.

Rather than simply refreshing the design, we used the project as an opportunity to clarify how the practice should present itself online and create a platform capable of supporting its next stage of growth.

My role

I led the project from initial strategy through to launch and ongoing optimisation, including:

  • Digital strategy and positioning
  • Information architecture
  • UX design
  • Copywriting and content strategy
  • Website design and development
  • Technical SEO and accessibility
  • Performance optimisation
  • Search analysis and ongoing improvement

The challenge

Healthcare decisions are built on trust.

Most visitors don’t arrive searching for an acupuncture technique. They arrive with uncertainty. They may have been trying to conceive for months, be struggling with chronic pain, recovering from illness or looking for support through pregnancy.

The website needed to reduce that uncertainty.

It needed to help visitors recognise their situation, understand Saskia’s approach and feel confident that they had found someone with the knowledge and experience to help.

At the same time, it needed to balance breadth with focus, reflecting the full scope of the practice while establishing stronger authority in key areas such as fertility and women’s health.

The approach

Every decision was made around one question:

What would help a prospective patient feel understood and confident enough to take the next step?

We reorganised the site around the reasons people seek treatment, creating clearer pathways into each area of the practice while simplifying navigation and reducing unnecessary complexity.

The content was rewritten to answer the questions patients naturally ask before making contact, using straightforward language that feels informed and reassuring without becoming overly clinical.

Alongside the visible redesign, I rebuilt the technical foundations of the site, improving page structure, accessibility, performance, metadata and internal linking to support long-term search performance.

Following launch, the work continued through regular analysis of search behaviour and ongoing refinement. Rather than treating the website as a finished product, we used real search data to identify new opportunities, strengthen important pages and develop content around the questions patients were already asking.

Results

The website now reflects the maturity of the practice rather than simply describing its services.

Patients can more easily recognise the areas relevant to them, understand Saskia’s approach and make informed decisions about booking an appointment.

The clearer structure also provides a stronger foundation for future growth. Specialist content can be added naturally, search visibility can continue to improve over time, and the website can evolve alongside the practice without needing another wholesale redesign.

Early improvements included stronger visibility for important local searches around Blackheath and Greenwich, together with a clear roadmap for expanding authority in fertility and IVF, one of the practice’s most significant specialist areas.

Reflection

The project wasn’t ultimately about redesigning a website.

It was about helping an experienced practitioner communicate the quality of her work with the same clarity, confidence and care that patients experience in person.

The result is a website that not only looks more considered, but better supports the relationship between practitioner and patient before they ever meet.

If this case study feels close to your situation, these are the most useful places to explore the approach behind the work.
